WIN for Columbia Awards
There could not have been a better way to begin my birthday than celebrating women in sports at the WIN for Columbia Awards Show.
The room was filled with women of all ages, from young athletes just beginning their journeys to seasoned leaders who have spent decades shaping the landscape of sports in our community. Watching them be recognized for their accomplishments was more than inspiring. It was affirming. It reminded me why this work matters.
One of my favorite parts of the evening was running into friends who are now in completely different phases of their careers. Some are coaching. Some are working in athletics administration. Some are building businesses. Yet the common thread in every conversation was clear: sports laid the foundation. The confidence, resilience, and leadership skills they developed as athletes continue to show up in their professional lives today.
That is exactly why I care so deeply about keeping girls engaged in sports.
We also had the privilege of hearing from Lynda Tealer of the NCAA, whose message reinforced the power of opportunity and the importance of continued advocacy for women in athletics. Her perspective as a leader in collegiate sports added depth to an already meaningful evening.
WIN for Columbia continues to create spaces where women are seen, celebrated, and supported. To witness that on my birthday felt symbolic. It was a reminder that this next year of life is not just about personal milestones, but about purpose.
If this is how the year begins, I cannot wait to see what’s ahead.
