Celebrating National Salute to Veteran Patient Week
On February 12, I had the honor of being invited by the staff at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital to celebrate National Salute to Veteran Patient Week during Valentine’s week.
It was a meaningful reminder that service does not end when someone leaves the battlefield. Many of the veterans I met have given so much of themselves to protect our country, and spending time with them — even in a small way — felt like the least I could do to say thank you.
There was something especially powerful about visiting during Valentine’s week. While the world often focuses on romantic love, this visit centered on a deeper kind of love — love of country, love of service, and love shown through sacrifice. Taking time to sit, listen, and simply be present with these veterans was incredibly humbling.
Moments like these remind me that community is built through gratitude and connection. Whether through sports, service, or simply showing up, we all have a responsibility to uplift those around us.
I am so thankful to the team at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital for the invitation and for the care they provide to our veterans every single day. It was truly an honor to be part of such a special week.
