Y-Club Lesson on Healthy Relationships & RESPECT

I recently returned to the YMCA Y-Club to lead another confidence-based lesson, this time focused on healthy relationships and respect. Using movement and simple dance activities, we talked about how respect shows up in our words, our actions, and how we treat others.

The kids learned different dance moves that represented listening, taking turns, personal space, and encouragement. As we moved together, we discussed what it looks like to be a good friend, how to support one another, and why kindness and respect matter both in sports and in everyday life.

The energy in the room was incredible. The kids were engaged, expressive, and eager to participate. Using movement made the lesson fun, memorable, and easy to understand, and it created a safe space for conversation and connection. Moments like these remind me how powerful creative approaches can be when teaching important life skills at a young age.
