Witnessing the Impact of MizzouThon

I had the opportunity to attend MizzouThon’s Main Event at the Mizzou Rec Center, with 478 other people in the community. I was invited by a member of my campaign team to come as a spectator, and I am incredibly glad I did. Being in the room and witnessing the energy, passion, and dedication of the students involved was truly inspiring.

MizzouThon is part of the Dance Marathon movement supporting the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, where students unite to raise critical funds for children and families receiving care in their local community. The mission behind the event is simple but powerful: support kids who need life-saving treatments and healthcare services, and ensure families do not have to face those challenges alone.

Throughout the event, it was clear how much heart the students poured into the cause. Seeing hundreds of students come together for something bigger than themselves is a reminder of the incredible compassion within the Mizzou community.

One of the highlights of the day for me was unexpectedly running into one of the students from the Y-Club, Hudson. Moments like that are always special because they remind me that the work happening in our community truly connects people across different spaces. Watching students like Hudson participate in events that prioritize service and compassion makes me incredibly hopeful for the future.

MizzouThon is more than a fundraiser, even though they raised an astounding $135,006.31. It is a reflection of what happens when a community rallies together to support those who need it most. I am grateful I had the opportunity to witness it firsthand and to see the impact these students are making for children and families in Missouri.

Events like this remind us that service is at the heart of leadership, and Mizzou students continue to lead the way.
