Y-Club - Authentic Self Lesson
During my recent visit with the YMCA Y-Club, I had the opportunity to lead a confidence lesson using the Women’s Sports Foundation’s We Play Interactive system. The focus of the lesson was helping kids understand what it means to be their authentic selves and feel confident expressing who they are.
We started by getting everyone moving. Each child shared their favorite movement, whether it was jumping, spinning, dancing, or running in place. From there, they paired up with a buddy to talk about what they like to do for fun and one thing they love about themselves. The conversations were thoughtful, honest, and full of personality. It was a great reminder of how naturally confident kids can be when given the space to express themselves.
The lesson ended with plenty of laughter, and the kids made one thing very clear. They told me I need to wear my crown next time. I thought my casual outfit would be a hit, but they definitely preferred the royal look. Moments like that make this work so special and remind me how powerful confidence, authenticity, and joy can be when introduced early.
